Starbound is an indie game being produced by the UK-based independent game studio Chucklefish Ltd. Starbound takes place in a two-dimensional, procedurally generated universe which the player will explore in order to obtain new weapons, armor, and miscellaneous items. Starbound entered beta testing on December 4, 2013 for Microsoft Windows, OS X and Linux.

Terasology (started under the name Blockmania) is an open source project started by Benjamin “begla” Glatzel to research procedural terrain generation and efficient rendering techniques in Java using the LWJGL. The engine uses a block-based voxel-like approach as seen in Minecraft. After proving itself as a solid tech demo begla was joined at first by Anton “small-jeeper” Kireev and Rasmus “Cervator” Praestholm and a full-fledged game concept was born.

Freeminer is a Minecraft-inspired sandbox game.

Creativerse is a sandbox adventure game set in a beautiful yet treacherous world shrouded in mystery. Adventure solo or bring your friends, unearth secrets, and tame the land together!

Growtopia is an experimental multiplayer creative sandbox platformer with crafting. There are no goals, just an infinite number of worlds where you can create whatever you want with all your friends. Everything in the world can be grown from trees - plant Dirt Trees, Lava Trees, and of course Jetpack Trees. Discover new items by mixing the seeds of trees you already have.

Cube World is a 3D action RPG currently in development for PC. It features a huge procedurally generated world made up of cubes!It may look like another Minecraft clone but this is more down to exploration. Find roads leading to a village. Get quests and talk to NPC's. Its inspiration mainly comes off of Legend of Zelda, but open world.

I have said a few times that Epic Inventor was inspired by Terraria. There are obvious similarities you can see right away in the various screenshots I’ve posted. Certainly our desire to create a game was inspired by it as well. We love that game. We played it a lot.

Expanding upon the immensely popular action-sandbox title Terraria, exploring what might have been, and approaching gameplay in a new direction; Terraria: Otherworld represents a novel take on the Terraria experience.
