  • GNUnet

  • GNUnet is a framework for secure peer-to-peer networking that does not use any centralized or otherwise trusted services. A first service implemented on top of the networking layer allows anonymous censorship-resistant file-sharing. Anonymity is provided by making messages originating from a peer indistinguishable from messages that the peer is routing. All peers act as routers and use link-encrypted connections with stable bandwidth utilization to communicate with each other. GNUnet uses a simple, excess-based economic model to allocate resources. Peers in GNUnet monitor each others behavior with respect to resource usage; peers that contribute to the network are rewarded with better service. ยป

  • cjdns

  • Cjdns (Caleb James DeLisle's Network Suite) is a networking protocol and reference implementation, founded on the ideology that networks should be easy to set up, protocols should scale up smoothly, and security should be ubiquitous.

  • Netsukuku

  • Mesh routing protocol designed to handle a massive amount of nodes with very low resource consumption. Thanks to this feature it can be easily used to build a worldwide distributed, anonymous and uncontrolled network, separated from the Internet, without the support of any servers, ISPs or authority controls.

  • CCNx

  • Project CCNx is sponsored by the Palo Alto Research Center (PARC) and is based upon the PARC Content-Centric Networking (CCN) architecture, which is the focus of a major, long-term research and development program. There are interesting problems in many areas still to be solved to fully realize and apply the vision, but we believe that enough of an architectural foundation is in place to enable significant experiments to begin. Since this new approach to networking can be deployed through middleware software communicating in an overlay on existing networks, it is possible to start applying it now to solve communication problems in new ways. Project CCNx is an invitation to join us and participate in this exploration of the frontier of content networking. ยป

  • SMesh

  • SMesh is a seamless wireless mesh network being developed by the Distributed System and Networks Lab at Johns Hopkins University. It provides peer-to-peer connectivity, Internet connectivity, and fast handoff to mobile clients across the mesh. Clients get connected automatically through standard DHCP. No software or drivers need to be installed on the mobile devices. SMesh takes care of providing end-to-end connectivity transparently for the clients.
