Simple Scan is an easy-to-use application, designed to let users connect their scanner and quickly have the image/document in an appropriate format.

XSane is a graphical scanning front-end for SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy). It uses the SANE-library to talk to scanners. It is designed for acquiring images with scanners (there are other devices like cameras and videodevices supported by SANE and you will see that xsane may support some basic functions of those devices, but XSane is not designed for that purpose).

MetaDMS Scan Software is a freeware application for Windows XP/2000 / Vista, designed for convenient scanning of paper documents from scanners that support TWAIN protocol.

Skanlite is a simple image scanning application that does nothing more than scan and save images, based on the KSane backend. Skanlite can open a save dialog for every image scanned or save the images immediately in a specified directory with auto-generated names and format.
