Hard disk drive health inspection tool

The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd) to control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks. In many cases, these utilities will provide advanced warning of disk degradation and failure.

DriveDx is advanced drive health diagnostic and monitoring utility. Unlike most drive utilities, DriveDx does not only monitor the drive’s built-in S.M.A.R.T. status, but also analyzes the changes of all drive health indicators that are closely related to HDD or SSD failures (like the pending bad sectors, reallocated bad sectors, uncorrectable bad sectors, SSD wear out / endurance, and more) and alerts the user immediately if anything goes wrong. Our drive health diagnostics algorithms are based on the recent researches in this field. The application provides access to all sufficient drive diagnostic data to satisfy any system administrator. DriveDx is the first utility of its kind to have a real user-friendly Mac-style interface. »

StableBit Scanner is a state of the art disk health monitoring tool.- Monitors the SMART data of your disks, and presents them in an easy to read, meaningful way.- Lists detailed information about your disk, including the connection type, bus speed, and supported features.- Performs a surface scan of the disks to ensure that every sector of the disk is readable, once a month.- Can recover "damaged" files that are located where there is damage to the disk. - Performs a file system check, to make sure they are healthy.- Notifies you of any issues via email, sms, NotifyMyAndroid, PushOver and many other notification systems.- Includes a number of useful metrics, such as disk performance and disk queue length.- Includes diagnostic abilities, such as the "Burst test" which is great for detecting problems with data cables or controllers.- Integrates with StableBit DrivePool (shows disk information in DrivePool's UI, and evacuates damaged disks to help prevent data loss). »

This is a Windows version of the Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. It will test WD internal and external drives. In additional, it can provide you with the model and serial of WD drives attached to the system.

SMART Utility is an application to scan the internal hardware diagnostics system of hard drives. SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) is a system built into hard drives by their manufacturers to report on various measurements (called attributes) of a hard drives operation. The attributes can be used to detect when a hard drive is having mechanical or electrical problems, and can indicate when the hard drive is failing. SMART Utility can read and display these attributes. This allows time to hopefully backup, and then replace the drive. SMART Utility also allows running a drives built in self test, which can also indicate malfunctions on the drive. »

Diskscan is intended to provide the information needed to decide if a disk is good or not, be it an HDD or an SSD it is likely to be holding important data and if you have a suspicion that it is failing it is also important to know how bad is it down the road. Diskscan will only perform reads in its disk surface scan so it is not destructive in any way and it will report on all the key metrics needed to decide if the disk is good or not, currently that includes reporting all the errors that were encountered, a latency histogram over the entire surface and a graph of the min/max/median latency over the disk surface. »
