Elmer is an open source multiphysical simulation software mainly developed by CSC - IT Center for Science (CSC). Elmer development was started 1995 in collaboration with Finnish Universities, research institutes and industry. After it's open source publication in 2005, the use and development of Elmer has become international.

Kratos is designed as an Open-Source framework for the implementation of numerical methods for the solution of engineering problems. It is written in C++ and is designed to allow collaborative development by large teams of researchers focusing on modularity as well as on performance. The Kratos features a "core" and "applications" approach where "standard tools" (databases, linear algebra, search structures, etc...) come as a part of the core and are available as building blocks in the development of "applications" which focus on the solution of the problems of interest. Code_Aster is a free software for numerical simulation in structural mechanics, developed mainly by the “Advanced Mechanical Analysis” department of EDF‘s research and development department (ERMES, ElectRo – MEchanics Studies).

FEATool is a fully integrated multiphysics modeling and engineering simulation environment for Matlab and Octave, featuring built-in CAD and geometry tools, preprocessing and grid generation, solvers, and postprocessing and visualization.
